FreeBMD is an ongoing project, the aim of which is to transcribe the Civil Registration index (from Sep 1837) of births, marriages and deaths for England and Wales, and to provide free Internet access to the transcribed records. It is a part of the FreeUKGEN family, which also includes FreeCEN (1881 UK Census data) and FreeREG (Parish Registers).

Access to 1837-c.1920 registers of birth, marriage & death, England and
Wales. Particularly useful for marriages, as there are links from a name
to the page containing the other names; as there were often only 4 names
on a page this will often identify a spouse.
